Where it all began...
In 1987 Guns and Roses released their debut album – Appetite For Destruction – and changed rock music forever. Raw, unrelenting and "in-yer-face" from start to finish, this was the record that redefined rock music in the 80s. The lyrics were incisive and the music uncompromising, completed by Slash's inspired fretboard mastery and unique sound, regarded by many as the ultimate rock tone.

The intriguing history of the Marshall amp used by Slash on AFD and its subsequent disappearance has now passed into rock folklore. Widely believed to be a hot-rodded, 100 Watt, pre-master volume model from the early 70s, this legendary amp was hired specifically for the "Appetite" sessions in 1986. Eager to hold on to the amplifier, Slash told rental company S.I.R. that it had been stolen, only to have it "stolen" back a year later during tour rehearsals. Ever since there has been little to no word on the whereabouts of that mysterious 100 Watt head, synonymous with a true rock icon and one of greatest rock albums of all time.
Now Slash and Marshall Amplification have joined forces to re-create that revered "Appetite Tone" with the announcement of the new Marshall AFD amplifier. Fans around the world will be able to track the development of this incredible project online, from drawing board to stadium

YAMAHA MOTIF XS

Perfect for musicians and composers who strive to make professional quality music!
With the new Yamaha MOTIF XS, inspiration is just a key press away. High-quality sounds inspire you, intelligent arpeggiators fuel your creativity, recording features capture every idea, built-in sampling allows you to create full audio/MIDI arrangements, rhythmic Patterns to compose with, studio-style mixing controls and versatile effect processing to master your final productions.

With all this and more, the MOTIF XS will be your favorite 'go-to' instrument - whether you're composing at home, recording in the studio, or playing live. It's got absolutely everything you need to make professional quality music.

Close your eyes, play the gorgeous sounds and rhythms of the MOTIF XS - and feel the inspiration.

- Ideal For Live Performance, Song Creating And Arranging

The MOTIF XS has so many sophisticated features that help jump-start your creativity and live performance potential. One of the most powerful of these is Arpeggio, which lets you trigger a variety of sequenced phrases from the keyboard. There are approximately 6,000 different Arpeggio phrases on board, and you can have four different Arpeggios, playing four different instrument parts, running simultaneously-in perfect sync, of course. The music making possibilities are virtually endless. Have a drum Voice play an automatic rhythm, add an Arpeggio bass phrase, and fly in other instrument phrases as the inspiration hits you. Everything stays in sync, and everything follows your chord changes.

While you experiment and play around with Arpeggios in the Performance mode, the song ideas will come fast and fierce-maybe too many to remember. No worries, though. You can capture them easily and directly by recording them to a Song or Pattern (which can be stored to the built-in flash memory). Since the data is MIDI, you don't have to worry about running out of recording space. You can record your keyboard playing, freely calling up various Arpeggio types as you improvise, then edit the Song later as necessary. You may even want to keep the recorder running' as you play, then listen back later and pick out the best parts to create your final composition.

Another powerful feature is the Integrated Sampling Sequencer, which seamlessly combines audio and MIDI recording. Simply install optional DIMM modules (up to 1 GB) and record the audio directly to tracks on the MOTIF XS. Record your vocals or acoustic guitar (with a microphone), electric guitar or bass, or even short rhythm loops from a sample CD.

There's also a Slice feature that automatically chops up your rhythms and riffs into their individual beats and notes, letting you manipulate the component parts of your sample loops as MIDI data - giving you the power to easily change tempo and rhythmic feel, without disturbing the pitch or sound quality.

Epiphone Les Paul Tribute

Epiphone's history and association with Les Paul dates way back to the days when Les, working at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York, created the world's first electric guitar. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone by reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. The NEW Epiphone "Tribute" Les Paul Standards honor that relationship by combining "as good as it gets" performance and features with legendary Epiphone quality and value.
At the heart of the "Tribute" Les Paul is construction. Tribute LP's feature a solid Mahogany back with a solid, carved hard Maple cap to create the ultimate combination of warmth and bite. Everyone knows that set-neck guitars provide the best rock tone and sustain and the "Tributes" take that to the next level featuring the original "deep set" neck joint. The solid Mahogany neck with hand-fitted, glued-in joint extends well into the neck pickup cavity creating maximum neck-to-body contact and acting almost like one continuous piece of wood. Combined with the Mahogany/Maple body, the result is a tribute to Les' timeless guitar design with the sound that you can only get from a Les Paul.
Your choice of neck profiles. Depending upon your taste, you have the choice of either a traditional "1960's" SlimTaper(tm) neck profile or an Asymmetrical neck profile. The "1960's" SlimTaper is a comfortable "D" shaped neck that was used and made famous on many 1960's era, Kalamazoo-made guitars from Gibson and Epiphone. The newer Asymmetrical neck has multiple radii and combines a more rounded "D" shape on the bass side of the neck with a flatter "C" shape on the treble side. This leads to a very comfortable neck that more ergonomically contours to fit the hand of most players. Both profiles are available on the Tributes and the choice is yours!
But quality construction, premium woods and choice are only part of the equation. Capturing all the power and nuances of the "Tribute" is a pair of authentic Gibson USA '57 Classic humbucking pickups. With its "Patent Applied For" decal on the base plate, the '57 Classic and '57 Classic Plus are faithful replicas of the famous Gibson humbuckers that helped define the music of the late 1950s. The '57 Classic gives you a tone that is warm and subtle with full, even response that doesn't hold back when you need that classic Gibson humbucker crunch! The '57 Classic Plus is the perfect bridge pickup and mimics humbuckers of that era that received a few extra turns of wire. This treatment gives the pickup slightly higher output without sacrificing its rich, vintage tone. In combination, this pair of humbuckers overdrives tube preamps to a smooth level of saturation without becoming overpowering. Both '57's feature Gibson's special Alnico II magnet, vintage enamel coated wire, nickel plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers and vintage-style, braided wiring.
But this guitar is not just about recreating the "old", it's also about looking ahead... just as Les himself continued to do throughout his lifetime. Using 4-conductor pickup wiring, Epiphone has added two push/pull tone pots to allow for series/parallel pickup switching. The result is a Les Paul with all the standard sounds plus a huge palette of tonal possibilities at your fingertips.
Loaded with premium add-ons! Other upgrades include a U.S. Switchcraft(tm) 3-way toggle, Mallory-150 tone capacitors, Epiphone StrapLocks, 16:1 ratio premium Grover(tm) locking tuners and a premium hard case. Like every Epiphone, it features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service. This guitar is not only a tribute to Les Paul, it's a tribute to just how good a guitar can be...TODAY!

Steve Vai Endorses the Radial JD7!

Vancouver BC - Radial Engineering Ltd. is pleased to announce that guitarist extraordinaire Steve Vai will now officially lend his name to supporting Radial's signal distribution amplifier, the JD7.

When asked about the JD7, Steve had this to say: "The Radial JD7 Injector is by far the finest guitar signal distro and Reamper I have ever come across. In fact it's the only one I have ever used that works cleanly with no hum or loading to the original signal. It has become an indispensable studio tool for me."

According to Radial president Peter Janis: "We'd been chatting on and off for several years but it was when Steve's sound tech Greg Wurth recommended one of our Switchbone ABYs I thought we should also send along our JD7. I remembered a discussion where Steve had mentioned being disappointed with all of the signal splitters he had ever tried . Turns out the JD7 made a great impression on Steve and we couldn't be happier. Who wouldn't want one of the most renowned guitar talents in the world backing one of your products? The JD7 did something for Steve Vai that he never thought he would find - a guitar splitter he was fully happy with. That's what we aim to do at Radial hence a great new relationship is born."

The Radial JD7 is considered a standard studio fixture for recording studios that specialize in tracking guitars. The fact that you can drive as many as 7 amps at the same time and then use it for Reamping makes it a very convenient and powerful piece of equipment. The critical advantage is the combination of Radial's award-winning class-A circuit design, Drag Control™ load correction and, of course, the liberal use of top-of-the-line Jensen™ transformers. This faithfully reproduces guitar signal without loading the pickup and sends it along to the amps with absolute purity.

Other top artists who use the Radial JD7 include John Petrucci, Steve Lukather, Neil Schon, Carlos Santana, Buddy Guy, Steve Rotherby, George Lynch, Metallica and Aerosmith.
